Noun/Adjective Project
Individually and collectively creating forms based on two words
Adjective:
FAST - moving or capable of moving at a high speed
Envision how an adjective modifies a noun in a sentence. It is transformative, changing our mind’s eye as fast as we can say the sentence. Now envision that the noun being modified is a form that takes on the characteristics of the qualifying adjective. We can find examples of forms both natural and man-made which can inspire thoughts of the qualifying adjective.
Inspiration To Ideation
Capturing a Fast Form
After landing on a more resolved form in yellow foam, I wanted to eliminate extra lines or breaks in the form and create something that was one fluid shape to capture a fast form through my interpretation.
Here is my final form
This final form takes on the qualities of sharpness, length, and directionality all at the same time. The front tapers down to the end into a thin tail, with subtle breaks in the form that make it seem like its only option is to move forward.
Noun:
CHAIR - a separate seat for one person, typically with a back and four legs.
I realized the formal qualities which represent my adjective - FAST. These qualities have been expressed through drawings, sketches, and model making.
I applied this extensive and in-depth formal understanding to an existing product: CHAIR
Capturing a Fast Chair
Creating a still form that encourages movement was difficult within itself. A chair on the other hand, added another layer to this exploration. The bottom platform was directly inspired by my fast form and with its slight upward tilt, makes for a chair that appears to be ready to catch flight. Take a seat and lift off.
Final Chair design was made in 1/6 scale of actual size and all yellow & blue foam models for this project were hand crafted
